Best Alternatives to Cloudflare-Dependent WordPress Hosting (Avoid The Crash!)

Cloudflare is one of the most loved products in the tech world and there is no real competitor for them to offer a vast number of services for absolutely free of cost. Cloudflare is also a favourite among most web hosts, as they use many of its services, including Enterprise CDN, DNS, Argo Routing, and DDoS Protection. However, when Cloudflare goes down, it takes half of the internet down with it. Such downtimes have increased in recent years, though Cloudflare is very transparent about the issue, often discussing it in blog posts.
However, for critical business websites that can’t afford such downtime, we are sharing some Cloudflare-independent WordPress hosting solutions. I’m writing this blog post after the Cloudflare outage on November 18, 2025. This blog post is not intended to show Cloudflare in a bad light, but to provide an option for anyone looking for similar, safer solutions.
Let’s get started.
Templ
Templ hosting is 100% powered by Google Cloud. It utilizes Google Cloud hosting, DNS and CDN. Your sites will be hosted on the same infrastructure that powers Google’s products, including Gmail, YouTube, Gemini, Google Photos, and every product under its umbrella. In fact, the November 18 Cloudflare Outage took down ChatGPT and Claude but not Google Gemini. When was the last time you heard that Gmail and YouTube are down? Google Cloud status page shows incidents here and there but nothing like it took down the whole internet, except a huge outage in Paris DC in 2023.
Templ-hosting-TTFB-and-uptime-report-Q1-Q2-2025Our site, Hostingstep.com, is hosted on Templ because of the superior performance of Google CDN. We have been hosted there for the last 5 years, and we have faced very minimal downtime of less than a minute. It’s not as fast as Cloudflare, but it serves every visitor with a 100% cache hit ratio, whereas if Cloudflare cache misses, the TTFB can exceed 1 second, further increasing full load time. Given the unprecedented times for website owners due to AI stealing traffic, it’s essential to prioritize faster loading times for each visitor.
Templ gives you access to all 37 Google Cloud data centers worldwide, so you can host your sites closer to your target audiences. The plan starts at $14/month for a single site.
Pressable
Pressable is our recent favourite hosting company, founded by the WordPress team itself. Almost all of the fastest hosting providers in our benchmark tests use Cloudflare Enterprise CDN edge caching to improve TTFB and load times. Pressable is different because they built their entire infrastructure from scratch, including data centers, DNS, and CDN. Many of them are unaware that Pressable DNS is much faster than Cloudflare, and as a result, it outperforms all Cloudflare-based hosting providers, such as WP Engine and Kinsta.
Pressable-TTFB-Speed-reportThe story doesn’t end here: Pressable offers geo-redundant high-availability cloud means that if your primary data center goes down, your sites will still be live, served from their secondary data centers. In this way, they guarantee your 100% uptime SLA, a crucial offering in the industry today. They also built their own CDN edge locations, so it’s completely free of Cloudflare products. The plan starts at $20.83/month.
Hostinger
Hostinger is another excellent Cloudflare alternative for WordPress hosting. Over the years, it has built its own data center, DNS, and CDN. I admire them a lot as they are the only low-cost hosting providers that have built their own tech stacks, including their control panel. I believe they reinvested the profit into developing self-reliant infrastructure, while most of their competitors still rely on cPanel and Cloudflare for other essential services.
Hostinger-TTFB-and-uptime-report-Q1-Q2-2025In fact, they are also our top-recommended WordPress hosts because of their consistent uptime and load-handling performance. They are the only shared host managed to offer 99.99% uptime in 2025 with just a single outage, whereas competitors average around 99.97% with 10-15 outages.
If you are looking for an affordable hosting solution, Hostinger is our choice. The Plan starts at $2.69/month, but we recommend their Business Plan, which starts at $3.99/month.
Concluding
No host is free from outages, and it can happen to Google Cloud, Pressable, or Hostinger in the future. However, it’s best to evaluate the options that suit you best for your peace of mind. In my case, I saw that Cloudflare was used by our competitors as well, so our performance looked very similar across testing tools.
However, when I started using Real User Monitoring (RUM), I noticed visitors were experiencing high load times due to Cloudflare Cache-Miss. That’s when I looked for an alternative and found Templ hosting to be good because of Google CDN edge caching, and I moved my entire group of websites. Likewise, look for opportunities when your existing tech stack is in flux and you can find better alternatives.
